Compacting mail.box Database

My mail.box router database takes 2 hours for compact at 4am and during this time, no mail routing can be taken and cause interruption to mail service. The mail.box is 1GB in size now. Can the mail.box compact be performed efficiently? My Domino server is at 8.0.2FP6. Thanks!
